Travel to Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur Pakistan holiday takes you to Bahawalpur, situated at a distance of about 93 km from Multan. Deriving its name from the founder of the Bahawalpur State, Nawab Bahawal Khan, the city of Bahawalpur once served the capital of the state.

The Abbasi family of Nawab Bahawal Khan Abbasi I ruled over the of Bahawalpur state for more than 200 years (1748 to 1954). It opted to merge with Pakistan in 1954 during the last Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V.

Bahawalpur brims with places of interest. Foremost among them are the Central Library which has a gigantic collection of books and rare manuscripts. Considered to be one of the best libraries in Pakistan, it attracts academicians, scholars and students.


Bahawalpur Museum is a treasure trove of collection of manuscripts documents, medals, coins, postage stamps of former State of Bahawalpur, camel skin paintings, inscriptions, wood carvings, historical models and stone carvings etc. of Islamic and pre-Islamic period.

Considered to be one of the best in Pakistan, the Zoological Garden of Bahawalpur has a fantastic collection of 120 animals and 750 birds of tropical areas.

For sports enthusiasts, Bahawalpur offers a lot. The Dring Stadium in the city is one of the finest stadiums in the country having fine cricket grounds, two football grounds, one basketball court and six lawn tennis courts and a covered swimming pool.

Bahawalpur is also home to the famous Shrine of Muluk Shah, a popular saint of his time. The shrine attracts devotees in large number on every Thursday, Ashura and Eid days. Constructed by Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V, the Jamia Masjid Al-Sadiq in the city is also a must visit place.

There are many places, which make for perfect trip from the city of Bahawalpur. These places are dotted with many sites, which are of tourist interest.

From Bahawalpur, you can move to Cholistan, a sandy wasteland dotted with nomadic communities and wind-swept forts. For wildlife enthusiasts, the Lal Suhanra National Park offers a wide variety of flora and fauna. An important gateway for world famous archaeological site Harappa, Bahawalpur is also base for the second famous site Mohenjodaro.
