No tour to Pakistan can be considered perfect without a visit to Lahore. A historic city, Lahore traces its origin during the Ramayana period. Legend has it that it was founded by the son of Rama, the hero of the Ramayana. However, it caught the attention when it gradated to a center of Islamic culture and learning in the 11th century AD. Capital of the Punjab province of Pakistan, it served as the capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar from 1584 to 1598.
Lahore is home to a surprising number of important historic landmarks and monuments, which dates back to the Medieval Period and are in excellent condition. Some of the places of interest in the city are the Royal Fort, the Badshahi Mosque, the Tombs of Emperor Jehangir, Empress Noor Jehan, Anarkali and Asif-Jan, and the famous Shalimar Gardens.
Foremost among the Mughal's monuments in Lahore is the "Shahi Qila" or Royal Fort, dating back to 1566 A.D. Built by Akbar, this rectangular fort contains many beautiful buildings within its precincts like Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque), Diwan-e-Am, Diwan-e-Khas, Khwabgah-e-Jahangir (Jahangir's Room of Dreams). The most beautiful palace in the Fort is the famous Sheesh Mahal or Palace of Mirrors decorated with small mirrors of diverse colors.
Another fine specimen of Mughal's architecture in Lahore is the Imperial or the Badshahi Mosque built by Emperor Aurangzeb in 1674 A.D. The second largest mosque in Pakistan this red sandstone mosque was built in a record time of two and-a-half years.

Built in 1634 by Wazir Khan, the governor of the Mughal province of Lahore during the rein of Shah Jahan, the Wazir Khan's Mosque is hailed as one of the most beautiful mosques in Pakistan. It is justifiably famous for tile work and arabesque paintings.
Three miles east of Lahore on the on the Grand Trunk Road are the famous Shalimar Gardens laid out by the Mughal Emperor Shah-Jehan in 1642 A.D. Spread out in typical Mughal style, the garden is a must visit in the city of Lahore.
An attractive mosque with three golden domes, the Golden Mosque was built in 1753 A.D. Situated in the Kashmiri Bazaar the mosque was built by Nawab Syed Bhikari Khan, then Deputy Governor of Lahore.
Modern sights of Lahore include the Minar-i-Pakistan which stands tall in the Iqbal Park. Built to commemorate the event when the Pakistan Resolution was passed on 23rd March 1940, the Minar is about 60 meters tall and is a fine example of seamless blend of Mughal and modern architecture
