Pakistan has the proud distinction of being the cradle of the world famous civilization of Indus valley Civilization also named Harappan. Harappa is the most famous site of this civilization.

The Indus River Valley has played a unique role in human history. Thanks to its special ecology and fertile ground, the banks of the Indus were able to support intensive agricultural development. This resulted in the foundation of the Indus River Valley civilization of the ancient world.

An ancient and amazing urban settlement of the prehistoric period, Harappa dates back to 3rd to 2nd millennium B.C. The Indus Valley, or the Harrapan civilization as it is commonly known, was discovered in 1920-21 when engraved seals were discovered near present-day Sahiwal in the Punjab province of Pakistan at a place called Harappa.


Situated about 200 Km from Lahore and about 30 km from Sahiwal, Harappa houses an interesting and well-maintained museum that has the finest collection of artifacts found in the area.
